Everybody hates it when their mail inboxes are flooded with spam, but what can you do about it? Most e-mail clients offer some spam protection but not enough. Spamihilator is an extra defence line you can add between your mail account and a client such as Outlook or others. It will filter incoming mail so that only relevant messages will reach the mail client.

The application is free. There's just a 2.25 Mb package to download and run. Installing and making it work is no hard task. You won't have to type complex addresses or anything of the sorts. After a straightforward installation process, a wizard will help you configure the application to your mail client. It supports most e-mail software like MS Outlook, Opera, Eudora, Pegasus Mail and others. The wizard will automatically detect the client you're using and all you have to do is select it from a list.

You can have the program ready for action in one or two minutes. Now every message you receive will first pass through Spamihilator. You can access the little interface it has through its system tray icon. This will bring up a recycle bin for e-mail. It's a list of messages halted by the application. You can choose their fate via large colored buttons from the toolbar. View them, restore or delete them. In the top Edit menu you can find some extra options which let you add the sender or domain to a block or friend list.

When freshly installed, Spamihilator will grab most incoming messages and send them to its recycle bin, but it can be easily trained what to stop or allow. In the upper right corner of this window you can find a Training Area button. This will bring up a new window where you can teach the application which messages are bad and which ones are nice. It's almost identical to the Recycle bin, but the options you find here let you mark your messages as spam or non-spam. Once you've marked them, you can click the Learn button from the toolbar and Spamihilator will then be more effective in distinguishing friend from foe.

You can access the general settings panel by right clicking the system tray icon and hitting the settings button. It features a rich, tree like, navigation pane on the left side of the window and the actual settings on the larger, right side. You can find settings for mostly anything such as rules, learning filter, aggressiveness, a spam words list and a lot more.

Pros

Spamihilator is an easy to use and effective defence against spam and it's free. It needs a short learning period, but you won't be bugged by spam ever again.

Cons

There's nothing to really complain about it. Everything in Spamihilator seems to click into place. With Spamihilator's cutting edge mail filtering protocols, your e-mail clients won't see a spam message ever again.
